The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is pleased to host a national dialogue on gender at the nexus of innovation and entrepreneurship with emphasis on the health and medical sciences sector. Building on the momentum generated from two previous Summits, the AWIS National Summit will center on how we, as a society, can fuel innovative solutions to global challenges facing all our citizens.

The focus will be on how to develop inclusive, fiscally-responsive systems to drive research excellence and feed long-term economic growth with experts from industry, academia, and government. Keynote speaker

Dr. Maria Velissariou

Dr. Maria Velissariou is currently the Vice President for Global Grains, Dairy and Convergence Platforms in Nutrition R&D with responsibility for global technologies that drive scale and growth in line with the Global Nutrition Group agenda at PepsiCo. Her focus is the delivery of advantaged nutrition, superior product experiences and affordable solutions to consumers around the world seeking trusted and balanced options. She started her PepsiCo career in 2011 as VP R&D for Quaker, a Division of PepsiCo Foods, headquartered in Chicago. In that role, Maria was responsible for the Quaker Foods North America agenda delivering top and bottom line growth through product and packaging development, Quality, Food Safety, Regulatory, and technology applications feeding the innovation pipeline.

Maria is a member of the PepsiCo STEM Executive Council and Vice Chair for Million Women Mentors, an initiative of STEMconnector®. Maria is also member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Council for Science and Technology (C2ST).
